LliureX 8.09 Desktop Customization for USB devices

LliureX 8.09 customization,which can be booted from the Live USB given to attendants of the 3rd Conference on Free Software, Region of Valencia, is already available for download.

This customization is a LLiureX Desktop version which also includes an estimated 500MB FAT partition as well as the user home (ext3). This way, using the Live mode becomes easier and data persistence is guaranteed.

LliureX 8.09 Customization for Pre-School Education

Lliurex 8.09 customization for Pre-school and first years Primary education is already available to be downloaded.

This customization is specially suited for these first stages of education. It includes a desktop with sidebars displaying all the applications available and a central area for executing them.

It also adds a wide range of educational resources and activities to be used in the classroom.

LliureX Pre-School was released on the occasion of the 3rd Conference of Free Software, Region of Valencia, which was successfully celebrated and attended by all those involved in education.

LliureX 8.09 customization for Libraries

The customized version of LLiureX distribution for Libraries in educational centres was released on the occasion of the 3rd Conference on Free Software, event organised by Conselleria d'Educació and held on the 5th, 6th and 7th November in Alicante.
This application, called PMB, comes with a web interface which allows libraries control. Tasks such as cataloging, finding and borrowing books and, generally talking, any task related to libraries use and management can be performed using the PMB application.

The III International Conference on Free Software reaches the attendance limit

The III Conference on Free Software is “sold out” and an extensive waiting list has been created.



The III International Conference on Free Software – Region of Valencia, which will be held in the Congress Palace of Alicante on the 5th, 6th and 7th November, has closed registration as the 1.500 limited seating has been reached. However, the organizer committee has created a waiting list in order to meet the great demand, in case there are any cancellations.

The limited seating above mentioned was fully covered in a shorter time than expected, a 50% teacher attendance and the other half covered by attendants coming from other fields. In fact, more than 800 people have not been able to register due to having reached the limited seating.

Councillor visits new language lab in C.P. Comunitat Valenciana

Valencia (27th October 2008).- The Councillor of Education, Alejandro Font de Mora, has stated today that the new LliureX version launched by the Department of Technology for Innovation and Education will make language labs available for educational institutions. According to his words, it is “a new pedagogical tool for aiding to improve language learning, within the framework for fostering multilingualism and promoting English learning”.

Accompanied by Sofía Bellés as the Head of the Department of Technology for Innovation and Education, the Councillor for Education made these comments following his visit to the language lab which has been implemented in the state school C.P. Comunitat Valenciana. This is the first school to be using LliureX Lab, that turns computer rooms into language labs allowing teachers to use all kind of audiovisual and multimedia resources.

What is LliureX?

LliureX is an initiative driven by the Department of Education of Regional Government with the purpose of using free software ICTs in the Valencian Education System

LliureX is a GNU/Linux based distribution developed by the Department of Education intended as an operating system for educational institutions throughout the region.

LliureX uses exclusively free software and it is distributed free of charge.

Ubuntu-based LliureX 8.09 pool

Package repositories for the new LliureX 8.09 “Gaia”, based on Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), are already available in lliurex.net.

The update from the former version (lliureX 07.11) can be done using the update-manager. However, since this is a beta version release, automatic update to LliureX 08.09 cannot be made without having previously activated it. As soon as the final version is released, this step will not be necessary.

The Councillor of Education presents the “3rd International Conference on Free Software . Region of Valencia”

Alejandro Font de Mora, Councillor of Education, has presented the 3rd International Conference on Free Software-Region of Valencia which will be held at the Congress Center of Alicante on the 5th, 6th and 7th of November.

III Congreso

Alejandro Font de Mora has pointed out that LliureX shall be deployed in 60.000 computers belonging mainly to the education network within four years. All the state Valencian centres have already Lliurex available in some of their computers. Furthermore, more than 5.000 Infant LliureX Classroom Models have been implemented and 5.200 teachers have followed a training program. These improvements have allowed the regional government a 22 million euro savings on licences.

The Councillor also stated that LliureX includes 200 applications in Valencian language, it means, students from the Valencian Region shall be able to follow theri computing studies in their vernacular language and not only in Spanish or English.
