The Valencian Education Council through the LliureX project banks on fomenting technological modernisation carried out in the framework of a training process.
This project manages to meet the needs of a technological update of the education system and provide students with the very best training and above all, adapted to the new ICT society.
The main goal to be reached is the ICT integration in the Valencian Education System. To that end, the free software philosophy became a reference model to create the Debian- based GNU/Linux LliureX distribution and satisfy the real needs of the Valencian Education System.
On May 2005, the 2nd Free Software Conference was held in the Valencian Region and the first LliureX 5.05, a Debian-based Live-CD, was released featuring a wide range of educational applications.
On September 2005, the full LliureX 5.09r0 version was launched in two Cds including the the first simplified Classroom Model version. On July 2006, LliureX 5.09r1 is released with a full Classroom Model and afterwards, the new improved version LliureX 5.09r2 is announced on March 2007.
On November 2007, an important change took place regarding LliureX working method since a migration to Ubuntu was done, to be precise, to Edubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04 distribution which is specially focused on education.
Finally, LliureX Live-DVD 7.11 is released featuring all improvements reached with the Ubuntu migration as well as those based on LliureX own development.
