Sofía Bellés, Head of the Department of Technology for Innovation and Education, has taken part in the opening ceremony of the 2nd GUADEMY 2008 which has been held at the Polytechnic University of Valencia today.
Along with Sofia Bellés on behalf of the Valencian Government, the event was graced with the presence of Juan Miguel Martínez Rubio as the deputy vice-chancellor of the student body and the exchange program of the UPV ( Polytechnic University of Valencia), René Martín from the University's Free Software Office of La Laguna and José Ernesto Suárez as PoLinuX Chairman.

Sofia Bellés has focused her presentation on the great achievements reached by LliureX deployment in the regional education system. LliureX, an Edubuntu-based distribution, has been improved thanks to the collaboration of numerous programmers that are teaming-up in the task of supporting this initiative fostered by the Valencian Government with the purpose of encouraging the use of Open Sources.
The Head of the Department of Technology for Innovation and Education referred to the savings achieved through LliureX deployment, which gives the chance of more investments in teacher training and maintenance, repair, and operational support for the classroom technological equipment of the Valencian education centers.
Likewise, she availed herself of this opportunity to show her gratitude to the developers of free software desktops, whose continuous upgrading and improvements has paved the way for spreading the use of open sources and, particularly, of LliureX distribution.
On the other hand, Luis García as the Technical Coordinator of LliureX has given a speech on the “Problematic Issues of Derived Distributions” giving an account of the main modifications to be undertaken to build these distributions, and specially, for LiureX distribution. Furthermore, he offered a few suggestions and gave some advice on the issue and has thanked the efforts being made to facilitate the personalization process of the distributions.
