Alejandro Font de Mora, Councillor of Education, has presented the 3rd International Conference on Free Software-Region of Valencia which will be held at the Congress Center of Alicante on the 5th, 6th and 7th of November.

Alejandro Font de Mora has pointed out that LliureX shall be deployed in 60.000 computers belonging mainly to the education network within four years. All the state Valencian centres have already Lliurex available in some of their computers. Furthermore, more than 5.000 Infant LliureX Classroom Models have been implemented and 5.200 teachers have followed a training program. These improvements have allowed the regional government a 22 million euro savings on licences.
The Councillor also stated that LliureX includes 200 applications in Valencian language, it means, students from the Valencian Region shall be able to follow theri computing studies in their vernacular language and not only in Spanish or English.
According to Font de Mora's words, this conference has been organised on the basis of the commitment undertaken by the Valencian Government to support free software and cooperate closely with expert researchers, organisations and companies working on ICT.
“It is the 3rd edition of this Conference which, using the theme “Free Software for Education”, has the purpose of furthering the assumptions regarding software integration in the society as a whole and, specially, in education. The first one was held in Valencia and the second in Castellón so, it is pretty obvious that the third one shall be held in Alicante where we expect to have so many attendants as in the former ones”, remarked Alejandro Font de Mora.
The Councillor of Education was accompanied by Alida Mas Taberner as Under Secretary of Education, Sofia Bellés as Head of the Department of Technology for Innovation and Education and David Barelles as Head of the Teaching Personnel Department.
Within the framework of this conference, the Managing Department of Technology for Innovation and Education shall release a new LliureX version to be provided to all attendants and shall present its Classroom Model and the different adaptations to Pre-School Education, Music Classrooms, Language Labs and Libraries.
Furthermore, those centers where the GNU/Linux distribution of the Valencian Government has been already deployed will share their experiences focusing on the transition process carried out from the experimental LliureX centers to a final deployment in all the Valencian educative centers.
As in previous editions, the conference will feature world renowned speakers and free software experts from remarkable organisations such as Linux International, Ubuntu, “Open” “Office”, Gnome and the Free Software Foundation who will share their knowledge either on an educational or business approach. Workshops or speeches suggested by registered attendants and meeting the quality criteria set out by the Conference Scientific Committee shall be also hosted.
To attend the conference, those people interested can register or present their suggestions for possible workshops or speeches to be evaluated by the Scientific Committee in the Conference Official Website http://congreso.lliurex.net.
