Ubuntu-based LliureX 8.09 pool

News

Package repositories for the new LliureX 8.09 “Gaia”, based on Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), are already available in lliurex.net.

The update from the former version (lliureX 07.11) can be done using the update-manager. However, since this is a beta version release, automatic update to LliureX 08.09 cannot be made without having previously activated it. As soon as the final version is released, this step will not be necessary.

To get the update, the lliurex-gaia-preupdate package must be installed either from the console using the command:

$ sudo apt-get install lliurex-gaia-preupdate

or searching the lliurex-gaia-preupdate using the Synaptic package manager.

Once installed, the icon Update to LliureX 08.09 shall be added to the System Menu > Administration

When running this program, the update option is directly activated with the update-manager, which will show the availability of the new version. Clicking on the message button, the update process will be started.

This process may take quite awhile, depending on the computer features and the Internet access speed. As a function of the packages installed, different messages and warnings may appear in the update process. This option is generally accepted by default. The system itself works out solutions for any difficulty arising when finalizing the update process.

Though the update process changes our LliureX system version, the computer is still running on a standalone mode, it means , not connected to any network. Shortly, this new pool will include meta packages to promote our system for thin class client or class server and, which will be soon launched.
